“The International Academy of Design & Technology put on their Final Revolution 2009 fashion show on March 25th, 2009. This year, a lucky eleven students from Complections International were chosen to take part in this event. This was a great show, great experience, and we are looking forward to many more opportunities that Complections will give us to help us rise in our careers.
I think I speak for all of us when I say that there have been many ways we as students, have benefited from this experience. It was a great opportunity to get a taste of the industry. We were able to work with professional models and upcoming designers. We got to experience the hectic rush of working backstage at a fashion show. We all felt the adrenaline as the director came into the makeup room announcing , “Thirty minutes before show time. I need everyone ready as soon as possible”! Everything we’ve learned in class with regards to make-up and professionalism finally came into play.
Another way we benefited was through networking. We met other people within the industry that we could potentially work with. Our business cards were so essential at this point in time. Also, we were able to develop stronger relationships with our fellow classmates. This was our chance to see how they work outside the classroom. We all had great synergy and worked fabulously together.
When choosing a school to attend, my main focus was finding a place that gave their students more than just education. I wanted to find a school that provided the opportunity to help build my career. Complections has done just that. They are continuously giving students a chance to experience life as a working make-up artist. They are giving us the opportunity to network and build our careers. The school has shown us that opportunities do exist, even in a downturned economy. Having this initial experience under our belt is what will set us apart other make-up artists entering the industry. And if anything, this simply gives us even more motivation to pursue a career as a make-up artist.”
